The Sonoma Diet was designed to be two things above all else — simple and flavorful. The Sonoma Diet was inspired by the Mediterranean diet and emphasized eating a generous variety of fresh and delicious foods, including vegetables, whole grains, nuts, lean meats, and wine.
When I turned 50, I started putting on weight. At first it was only a couple of pounds, but over time those pounds began to add up. Before I knew it, I had gained 94 of them and my size 18 pants were getting tighter by the month. I knew I had to do something, but every diet I had tried in the past was a failure. Not one of them taught me how to eat healthily, and I didn’t like the foods that were encouraged (like tofu pudding, which didn’t taste good, let alone satisfy my sweet tooth). I wasn’t learning how to eat properly and I wasn’t losing weight. 
I wasn't overweight as a child, but later in life I faced some challenges that led me to gain weight. In 1990, I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, which kept me from exercising. Then, in early 2005, I hurt my back and neck in an accident. I knew that losing weight would help me feel better and allow me to focus on something other than the constant pain. I was finally convinced that it was time to make a change, and that’s when I saw Dr. Guttersen on the Today show. I was very interested, so I visited the Sonoma Diet Web site for more information and subscribed to the online program. This was one of the best decisions of my life.
